Premier League trio targeting Barcelona centre-back starlet

· The Football Faithful

Manchester United, Arsenal and Chelsea are all interested in signing Barcelona defender Pau Cubarsi after the defender’s exciting emergence this season.

Cubarsi has hit the headlines this week after starring during Barcelona’s 3-1 win over Napoli in the Champions League’s last-16, dealing with the threat of Victor Osimhen admirably as the Spanish side progressed to the quarter-finals.

The 17-year-old is the latest gem to have emerged from Barcelona’s La Masia academy system in recent seasons, following the likes of Gavi and Lamine Yamal into the senior side at the Camp Nou.

Cubarsi’s passing range and maturity has impressed in the Barcelona team this season and Football Espana are reporting that Premier League clubs are tracking his progress.

Manchester United, Arsenal and Chelsea all want to sign centre-backs this summer, while Manchester City made an approach for Cubarsi last summer.

The teenager is understood to have a release clause of just €10m-€15m in his contract in Catalonia, though Barcelona are confident he will sign a new deal and commit his future to the club.

England’s elite will keep a close eye on developments, however, while there will be hope that Barcelona’s economic issues can persuade the La Liga side to sell.

Barcelona are currently around €200m over their La Liga-imposed spending cap and are planning summer sales to ease their financial concerns.
