Alex Schumacher’s put-back at the buzzer lifts Seattle U men

Alex Schumacher put back a missed three-pointer by Cameron Tyson at the buzzer to lift the Seattle U men’s basketball team to a 48-46 win over visiting Cal Baptist on Saturday afternoon.

It was the fourth consecutive win for the Redhawks.

Tyson finished with 17 points on 8 of 23 shooting (1 for 11 from three-point range) for the Redhawks (10-5, 3-1 Western Athletic Conference).

Tyson scored 11 points in a 13-1 run that helped erase a 35-20 deficit early in the second half.

Brandton Chatfield scored 13 points and added eight rebounds for Seattle and John Christofilis shot 2 for 7, including 1 for 4 from beyond the arc to finish with seven points.

The Lancers (8-7, 1-3) were led in scoring by Hunter Goodrick, who finished with nine points and seven rebounds. Dominique Daniels Jr. added nine points for Cal Baptist. Blondeau Tchoukuiengo also put up nine points.

Seattle U visits UT Rio Grande Valley on Thursday.

Tips top T-birds

Julius Miettinen scored twice, once on an empty net, as the Everett Silvertips beat the visiting Seattle Thunderbirds 4-2.

Ben Hemmerling had a goal and an assist for the Silvertips, who got two assists from Teague Patton.

Nathan Pilling and Coster Dunn scored for the Thunderbirds, who sit in last place in the WHL’s U.S. Division.

Women’s basketball

Makayla Moore scored 18 points, but Seattle U (1-12, 1-3 WAC) lost 94-79 at Calfiornia Baptist (12-1, 4-0). Chloe Webb had 26 points and six assist for the Lancers.

Asher Cai scored 21 points as Central Washington (12-4, 3-1 GNAC) turned back visiting Seattle Pacific 71-61. Olivia Mayer scored 17 to lead the Falcons (5-9, 2-2).

Aaliyah Alexander scored 18 points to lead Eastern Washington (12-3) past North Dakota (4-11) in the Big Sky-Summit League Challenge, 72-65.

Men’s basketball

•Despite 25 points from Shaw Anderson, Seattle Pacific (8-9, 1-3 GNAC) lost 73-66 at Central Washington (9-4, 2-2). Camron McNeil scored 21 points on 8 of 12 shooting for the Wildcats.

Dane Erikstrup followed up his career-high 32-point game with 27 more as Eastern Washington (8-7) wrapped up its nonconference season with a 91-83 win against visiting North Dakota State (9-7) in the Big Sky-Summit League Challenge.
