Erik ten Hag verdict delivered as Man United hold Aston Villa in 'one of the hardest games'
Aston Villa were made to settle for a goalless draw by stubborn Manchester United on Sunday
by Joseph Chapman, https://www.birminghammail.co.uk/authors/joseph-chapman/ · Birmingham LiveAston Villa were held to a goalless draw by Manchester United at Villa Park on Sunday, on a day when much of the build up to the occasion centred around the future of Red Devils boss Erik ten Hag.
In what wasn't a particularly entertaining encounter, during which Bruno Fernandes and Jaden Philogene went as close as anybody to breaking the deadlock at either end in the second half, Villa made it two draws on the bounce before the October international break. They are, though, sweating on the fitness of Ezri Konsa, who was forced off in the first half.
For United supporters, who many consider Villa Park to be one of the toughest places United will visit this season, there is now a wait to see if the stalemate will be enough for under fire Ten Hag to retain his job, following an afternoon in which a host of senior members of the club hierarchy were in attendance. Ste MUFC: I don’t think that performance was terrible and Villa away is up there with on paper as one of the hardest games of the season. We’re still so so poor going forward and goals are impossible to come by. Will be interesting if ETH survives on this weeks two draws
MrBlueJangles : Some people will be mad at a point away to Villa, but it’s actually a very good point against a very good villa side in their backyard.
Andrew O'Brien : I think it's important to look at things in full context. That was a good defensive performance and a nice point on the road against a very good Aston Villa side. That being said, #MUFC is in 14th going into the next break, so closer to relegation than top four in mid-October.
Toney Coffey : I must admit I thought villa would have been better, they were at home after a big win against a Utd side who were low on confidence and they never looked like winning either
The Red Devil: A draw away to this Villa isn’t technically a bad result. But the performance was once again diabolical in every aspect.
Dawesy : Fair play for a point against a tough Villa side. Defence was solid but attack was limp and lacked quality. Will it save ETH? Not sure it will, but have international break now to sort.
Tilal : Great point at villa park would have loved to win all 3 points but couldn't. International break is on let's see what happens.
