Bayern Munich 'considered January move for Chelsea midfielder Mykhaylo Mudryk'

Bayern Munich had reportedly considered a move for Chelsea midfielder Mykhaylo Mudryk during the January transfer window.

The 23-year-old has struggled to hit the heights expected of him since joining The Blues from Shakhtar Donetsk for a fee of around £89m in January 2023.

Mudryk has made 41 appearances for the West Londoners and has scored just four goals and provided four assists during his time at the club.

Bayern have been very active in the transfer market since the arrival of Thomas Tuchel, splashing out over £125m on the likes of Harry Kane and Kim Min-jae last summer.

The Bavarians were busy once again in January, bringing in Galatasaray right-back Sacha Boey for around £25m, while they also snapped up now-former Tottenham Hotspur defender Eric Dier.

In late January, winger Kingsley Coman suffered an ACL tear, prompting Bayern to explore options in the transfer market once again.

As a result, the Bundesliga champions opted to move up Bryan Zaragoza's planned summer transfer from Granada by six months, though it did cost them a few additional million to seal the deal.

However, it is understood that the Spaniard was not the only player that was considered by the German giants during the transfer window.

According to The Athletic, Mudryk was among the options that The Bavarians considered bringing in for the injured Coman.

However, the report adds that Bayern were not interested in a permanent move for the Ukrainian since he had only joined Chelsea a year ago for a fee of around £89m, which put him outside their January budget.

The Blues outbid rivals Arsenal to sign Mudryk last year and offered the Ukrainian winger an eight-year contract that runs until 2031.

Mudryk has notched three goals and two assists in the current season and will be hoping to secure playing time in Chelsea's upcoming fixture.

The Blues are set for a crucial mid-table clash against Wolverhampton Wanderers at Stamford Bridge on Sunday.
