Mohamed Salah has posted a fresh injury update on social media as anticipation over his Liverpool return gathers pace for the Premier League run-in. The iconic Egypt forward, 31, has not played for the Reds since New Year's Day after picking up a hamstring problem while on AFCON duty for his country.

Salah was, once again, absent from the matchday squad when Liverpool defeated Burnley on Saturday afternoon. Goals from Diogo Jota, Luis Diaz and Darwin Nunez did the damage in a 3-1 win.

Dara O'Shea equalised for Burnley in the seconds before half-time, but Jurgen Klopp's men restored their lead just seven minutes after the break, and they routinely got back to winning ways. There are two points separating table-topping Liverpool (54 points) from Arsenal (52 points) in third.

However, second-placed Manchester City (52 points) do have a game in hand. In the end, Liverpool did not need Salah to get the job done against Burnley at Anfield on Saturday afternoon, but his impending return to the ranks - as underlined by his Instagram story - will be welcome news for Klopp's side in the title race.

Salah uploaded four images on to his Instagram story, spanning a three-hour gap on Sunday morning and into the afternoon, providing further insight into his recovery. His work-out in the gym included resistance work in addition to other drills which tested his agility and sharpness moving in small spaces.

Speaking about Salah before the Chelsea game, Klopp said: "You just do what you can do and while you are doing that, we from the outside have to wait until ready. Mo is not ready for this game, not ready for the next game, and then not. He's injured. I'm not sure if there was a misunderstanding at the beginning.

"Muscle injuries take time. It could have been much worse."

Salah was missing for matches against Chelsea, Arsenal and Burnley on Saturday afternoon. Liverpool are ready to take on Brentford in their next game on Saturday afternoon (12.30pm).
