The January transfer window is fast approaching as clubs eye reinforcements heading into the second half of the season.

Premier League clubs spent a record £815million in January last year, with Liverpool completing the signing of Cody Gakpo from PSV Eindhoven after bringing forward their transfer plans to beat off rival interest from the likes of Manchester United for the Netherlands international.

Speaking earlier this month, Jurgen Klopp revealed he is not planning to buy a centre-back to cover Joel Matip’s expected absence for the rest of the season but admits the nature of the Premier League means all clubs are “only two injuries away from a real problem”.

Klopp pointed to the availability and cost implications of trying to sign a player of sufficient calibre in the winter window, as he insisted the club doesn’t operate in a “wonderland”. But despite the Liverpool manager’s comments, his side continues to be linked with a host of names, and below we have rounded up the latest transfer gossip involving the Anfield club.

Goncalo Inacio

Liverpool have emerged as the latest club to be linked with a move for Sporting CP defender Goncalo Inacio.

The 22-year-old has been linked with Newcastle United and Tottenham Hotspur and more recently Arsenal. But now a report from Portugal has claimed that the Reds are on the ‘attack’ for the defender.

According to a report from Jornal de Noticias, Inacio is 'surrounded' by the Reds as they desperately seek to address the left-hand side of their defence next month. The report also claims that the Portugal international will only be sold if the £52m clause is activated.

Nino

Liverpool have reportedly joined the race to sign Fluminense central defender Nino.

According to Italian journalist Alfredo Pedulla, via HITC, the Reds have joined the race for the Fluminense defender and have asked for information about a potential January deal. The report also claims that Nino can leave Fluminense for around €7million (£6million) ahead of his contract expiring in December 2024.

Nino has spent the past five seasons with Fluminense, making 143 appearances for the club, scoring eight times and claiming three assists. He has also been linked with a move to AS Roma.

Maxence Lacroix

According to a report from France, Liverpool are not pushing forward with a plan to sign Wolfsburg defender Maxence Lacroix.

Foot Mercato, via Sport Witness, are reporting that the Reds are ‘not interested’ and it is instead ‘slightly less posh’ Premier League sides who are exploring a move for him. Atalanta is also named in the report as a possible destination for the defender.

The Mirror recently reported that the 23-year-old, who was born in France and represented his country at youth level, could be available at £25 million plus, but Liverpool would look to try and negotiate for any player into the final two years of their deal.
