'You lot are so bad' - Jamie Carragher hits back as Gary Neville gloats over Liverpool atmosphere

Jamie Carragher and Gary Neville had two very different responses to Jurgen Klopp's comments about the Anfield atmosphere during Liverpool's Carabao Cup win on Wednesday.

The Reds were back in action with their second of three home matches in a six-day period - a home quarter final cup tie with West Ham. Ultimately the hosts dominated and breezed past the London club with a 5-1 victory.

However not all was well as Klopp - at times visibly annoyed with the crowd's reaction around him during the match - came out firing in his post-match press conference.

"I thought in the first half when the boys played really exceptionally," he said. "It was a long time ago now, but I have to say I was not overly happy with the atmosphere behind me. I asked people what do they want?"

With only a few days until league leaders Arsenal are welcomed for a top-of-the-table clash, he then implored supporters who are "not in the right shape" to hand over their ticket to somebody else, adding: "We need Anfield on Saturday."

This wasn't a debate kicked up on the night though - this all stemmed from words said by Neville on commentary and in the aftermath of the Reds' 0-0 draw with Manchester United on Sunday.

He remarked: "I have to say, this is by far the worst atmosphere I’ve ever seen at Anfield for a Manchester United game."

Now waking up to the fresh Klopp comments, the former Manchester United quickly took the opportunity to clap back at the Liverpool supporters that had "a pop" at him since the weekend:

"Those Liverpool fans having a pop at me about the atmosphere v United are a bit quiet this morning."

Interestingly Neville tagged former Reds vice-captain and his Sky Sports co-pundit Carragher, who swiftly replied with his own theory about the boss' latest plea:

"Atmosphere was a bit flat v Man United because we expected to win easily because you lot are so bad……last night was absolutely fine," he said. "Jurgen knows all this & the power of Anfield. Compare his results at Anfield with a full stadium to the Covid…

"All mind games for Saturday," he claims all of this to be as Klopp hopes to gee up the crowd days in advance.
