Former Manchester United captain has taken aim at his old side for their 'criminal' defending during the first-half of their FA Cup tie against Liverpool.

Scott McTominay put United ahead, but late strikes from Alexis Mac Allister and Mohamed Salah turned the game on its head heading into the interval. However, Keane criticised the lack of intensity in United's defending, highlighting Marcus Rashford after Jarell Quansah run past him for the equaliser.

He said: "It was coming, it's been the biggest worry for United this season - they've been so open. They need someone to sit, it's called game-management, Liverpool were getting stronger but United have got to get someone in behind there, protect the back four.

"To give up the chances, they've got players back here (Mac Allister equaliser) but the intensity from the attacker, Rashford my God, you're talking about an FA Cup quarter-final - get to people.

"For Liverpool, it's way too simple get out to him but before that, not enough aggression, it's no good having the numbers back if they're not aggressive, you've got to be aggressive.

"This is injury time (Salah 2-1), go in at 1-1, game-management if you're on the ropes you can come out in the second-half. Liverpool haven't been that great going forward but if you keep giving them time and space in these areas, they get punished. For United to play out from the back in injury time, it's criminal."

Graeme Souness berated Erik ten Hag's side after Liverpool 'cut through them at will' before Keane, speaking to ITV, added: "Liverpool have done very little, it's been too easy.

"The second-half, United have to be very, very careful because it could get ugly. The manager spoke before the game about belief, I hope the players have belief they can get back into the game."
