Mariners firing manager Scott Servais as they collapse out of playoff contention
· New York PostThe Mariners are going to drastic measures to stop their stunning collapse.
Seattle is firing manager Scott Servais on Thursday as the team has seen a 10-game lead in the AL West evaporate, according to The Athletic.
The Mariners spent most of the season atop the AL West and a handful games over .500, but after losing eight of their past nine games they now site five games behind the Astros in the AL West.
The Mariners once had a 10-game lead atop the AL West.
The team plans to name Dan Wilson, who was a catcher for Seattle during the 1990s and 2000s, their interim manager.
According to the site, Wilson was the Mariners’ special assignment coordinator in spring training and a fill-in broadcaster for the team’s ROOT Sports coverage, but has never been part of a major league coaching staff.
The Mariners are 64-64 this season under the 57-year-old Servais, who was in his fifth season in charge.
