Former Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher has provided one big reason why the Reds hold a big advantage over Arsenal in the Premier League title race.

The Gunners find themselves in a four horse race to be crowned champions of England this season with Liverpool, Manchester City and Aston Villa all joining Mikel Arteta's men at the top.

After spending Christmas Day at the top of the table, Arsenal now find themselves in fourth place after falling to two surprise defeats to West Ham United and Fulham. And while the backlash from the losses may be slightly reactionary, there is work to be done if the Premier League title is to finally return to north London.

Unfortunately for Arteta's side, Liverpool and Manchester City are hitting top form. Pep Guardiola's side recently became champions of the world while the Reds are now five points clear after beating Newcastle United last night.

With plenty of football still to be played, Arsenal will continue to back themselves. The January transfer window has come at the perfect time for the Gunners, with a new centre-forward reportedly at the top of their priority list.

Ivan Toney has been strongly linked with a move to the Emirates Stadium ahead of his return to football after a ban for breaching betting regulations. There have also been links to Dusan Vlahovic and Victor Boniface.

However, with half of the season gone, Carragher has now claimed that the Gunners have one big disadvantage to their rivals in the form of their manager Arteta. Speaking on Sky Sports' Monday Night Football, he said: "Liverpool have got something Arsenal haven't got which is a manager who has won the title before, and players within that squad who are genuinely world class players.

"When you are talking about the other challengers, whether that is Arsenal or Aston Villa, they are still yet to prove that."
