Mbappe, Osimhen, Toney - Arsenal transfer rumours rated before January window

Arsenal have a huge January transfer window ahead and there are some big names linked with a move

by · football.london

The January transfer window is right around the corner and Arsenal could take the opportunity to strengthen their ranks for the second half of the season. The Gunners find themselves firmly amongst the title challengers at around the halfway stage of the campaign, similar to last time out.

Given the strength of Manchester City and Liverpool, it could be a desired dip into the market that awaits Mikel Arteta, with several positions that need addressing. A defender, a midfielder and a striker could be on the cards, with plenty of links appearing ahead of the window.

With that said, here's a look at the latest transfer links and how they are rated out of the options that Arteta needs to add to his squad.

Kylian Mbappe

One of the more ambitious links in recent weeks has been PSG superstar Kylian Mbappe, as he runs down his contract towards an end in the summer. The French forward is available on a pre-contract in January, while there could be a chance to agree a deal with his club once signed.

However, not only would it likely be an expensive deal, but there are questions over where he would fit in the squad on top of that. He has struggled as a striker at times, while the left-wing spot is already occupied by Gabriel Martinelli and Leandro Trossard, meaning it may not be a great deal.

Ivan Toney

A striker could be high on the priority list, with questions over a clinical finisher in front of goal, with Ivan Toney a persistent link in recent weeks. The England international has shown an ability to score on a consistent basis in the Premier League, bagging 20 last season.

There will be questions over his fee, given it is January, and whether he will return from his suspension for breaching FA gambling rules in the same form.

Victor Osimhen

Another forward on the radar is Victor Osimhen, with the Napoli striker showing his ability to win titles as well as impress on the European stage. With his new reported contract likely to include a release clause in the region of £110million, there is a clear price that can be paid for a player that would suit the style perfectly.

Douglas Luiz

Douglas Luiz has been rumoured with a switch to the Emirates Stadium for some time, but the exit from Aston Villa has never quite materialised. While he could be an option to reinforce the central ranks, Villa's impressive form may make a move difficult, despite how well he would fit.
