Richard Keys fumes at decision 'killing' football after Chelsea defeat to Liverpool
Chelsea were beaten 2-0 by Liverpool in the Carabao Cup final at Wembley on Sunday afternoon, but the Reds were denied the opener when Virgil van Dijk's header was ruled out by VAR
by Stephen Killen · football.londonRichard Keys has slammed the decision to disallow Virgil van Dijk's goal during Liverpool's Carabao Cup final win - claiming VAR is "killing the game".
The Liverpool captain found the back of the net in the second-half but Wataru Endo was adjudged to have been offside after interfering with play. Referee Chris Kavanagh, following the intervention of VAR, ruled that the Japan midfielder had illegally blocked Levi Colwill.
Van Dijk did get on the scoresheet in the 118th minute, heading the Reds to a 10th League Cup triumph, glancing home from Kostas Tsimikas' cross as the clock ticks on Jurgen Klopp's time in charge.
The game wasn't shy of taking points with Raheem Sterling's offside goal and Chelsea midfielder Moises Caicedo's tackle that forced Ryan Gravenberch off. Speaking as part of BeIN Sports coverage, Keys slammed the decision to chalk off the Dutchman's second-half header, he said: "It's gone too far, it really has gone too far. This 11 times out of 10 is a perfectly good goal."
The Liverpool captain lauded his teammates after they fought injuries and adversity in their record-extending triumph. He said: "It means so much. All of the young boys, it's incredible, I'm so proud.
"It was an intense game from both sides, they had chances, we had chances, first trophy as a Liverpool captain - it's all for the fans, let's enjoy it.

"I didn't want to get injured there, I tried to get up but it's emotion, it's everything. I'm so proud of the boys, all the young boys playing their part in what we achieved today, it's incredible, onto more.
"You should always savour the good moments, this is one of them. We will never take things for granted, it could've been the other way and we lost but we did it. Even with all the problems we have had, I'm proud to be part of this club and the boys."
He added: "When you're young and you get an opportunity, you need to grab it with both hands. It's good to see, I've said it many times, it should be like a start, they should use it to kick on. Players will come back in time, they will keep pushing towards the team and be with the club, it'll only benefit the club."
