Arsenal transfer news: £50m release clause 'considered' as Nketiah told he has 'no future'
The January transfer window now finally appears to be ramping up and while Arsenal are yet to complete any major deals, they remain linked with a number of stars including Ivan Toney, Martin Zubimendi and more
by Daniel Orme · The MirrorArsenal are yet to really kick off their transfer business as the January window closes in on its two-week mark.
The Gunners have been linked with a whole host of stars so far but the winter window is notoriously a tricky one to navigate. It cannot be argued that Arsenal could do with a couple of additions, particularly as they attempt to go one further than last year and finally lift the Premier League.
With all of that being said, take a look at all of the best rumours coming out of the Emirates Stadium over the past 24 hours:
Arsenal ‘consider’ Zubimendi clause
Arsenal could be set to pay £50m for former target Martin Zubimendi as they attempt to finally seal his signature. The Gunners have been linked with the Real Sociedad midfielder for some time.
They made their first attempt to sign him last year but failed to get a deal over the line. Now, Spanish outlet Sport have claimed that the Gunners have renewed their interest.
It is suggested that Arsenal are ‘willing’ to pay the release clause written into his current contract in an effort to get a deal over the line. It would take £50m to sign him and his deal runs until the summer of 2027.

Nketiah has ‘no future’
Eddie Nketiah has been told he should leave Arsenal because he has no future at the Emirates Stadium. "If I’m Eddie Nketiah, I’m wondering how I’m benched and [thinking that] I don’t have a future at Arsenal if I’m not starting as a central striker," former Premier League striker Chris Sutton told the It’s All Kicking Off Podcast.
"[Mikel Arteta is] desperate, I get that, but what message does that send to Nketiah if Havertz is at number nine, what is Nketiah thinking? If I’m Nketiah, I’m thinking I can’t stay at Arsenal any longer, if you play a guy who has shackles on, come on, he has no future at Arsenal."
Nketiah, 24, has made 27 appearances for Arsenal this season and has scored just six goals.
Smith Rowe speaks out on future
From one academy graduate to another, Emile Smith Rowe believes that the Emirates is the best place for him now amid doubts over his long-term future. He said: "It’s nice to be high up in the league, but in training, you are not thinking about that – you just want to get better every day and keep improving.
“I love that side of it. Everybody has to prove that they can play here, so it means every session you have to be at your best. It’s a great environment to be in."
Smith Rowe has seen his last couple of seasons hugely hampered by injury and has made just two starts for the Gunners this term.
