Mason Greenwood provides update on his situation after leaving Man Utd
Mason Greenwood is likely to secure a permanent transfer away from Manchester United during the summer transfer window once his loan spell at La Liga side Getafe ends
by Tom Blow · The MirrorMason Greenwood says he's "happy" at Getafe amid speculation over his future.
The England international, 22, joined La Liga side Getafe from Manchester United on a season-long loan deal in September. He mutually agreed to leave Old Trafford the previous month after the Premier League club completed an internal investigation.
Greenwood was arrested in January 2022 and subsequently charged with attempted rape, controlling and coercive behaviour and assault occasioning actual bodily harm. All charges were dropped in February 2023 before United opened their own investigation.
Greenwood has become a regular at Getafe following his temporary switch. The forward has scored five goals and provided four assists in 17 appearances but was sent off during Getafe's 2-0 home defeat to Rayo Vallecano earlier this month.
Despite that red card, Getafe are interested in signing him on a permanent deal. Barcelona and Atletico Madrid are also believed to be monitoring his progress. It's unclear how much United will demand for the player, who has 18 months left on his contract.
Greenwood was recently named as Getafe's Player of the Month and spoke to the club's YouTube channel about his time in Spain. "Everything’s fine," said the exiled United star. "I adapted pretty quickly. Teammates took me under their wing and I’ve just been happy ever since, coming here and training, playing the games. I’m happy."
He added: "The fans mean a lot to me. The best feeling so far is when I scored my first goal here at the stadium and it meant a lot to me, I heard the fans quite a lot. Also we had the training day and a lot of fans came out to watch so we always appreciate the fans. They’re like an extra man out there on the pitch when they’re out there supporting us."

Although other clubs are interested in signing Greenwood, Getafe are hoping to secure his services on a long-term basis. "Greenwood is a different player, with a lot of talent," said Getafe boss Jose Bordalas last month. "But in this football talent is not the main thing.
"It takes more work than talent. When he is at 100 per cent, we will be able to check his real level but he has the conditions to play in any major. (He's fitted in the team due to) a lot of patience, with a lot of calm, aware that he had been unemployed for a long time without playing and practically without training.
"But we trusted because of the talent, because of the level that he has had. Being able to opt for a player of this level at Getafe is complicated, almost impossible. And well, given the situation, we bet on him.
"We are happy and content because we have a great player, he is a good boy, he has fitted in really well and he just needs to learn a little more Spanish."
