Liverpool transfer news: Negotiations imminent for target as wonderkid price confirmed

Liverpool have yet to complete a transfer this January but recent seasons have seen the likes of Cody Gakpo and Luis Diaz arrive at Anfield during a tricky period to make deals

by · The Mirror

Clubs are entering the final stages of the January transfer window with plenty of work still to be done.

Compared to recent years, 2024 has provided a more subdued period of movement but the month always has a habit to intensify as it comes to a close. Liverpool sit top of the Premier League by six points as the window nears its end and will hope they can convert that into a second title under Jurgen Klopp.

The Reds saw the arrival of Alexis Mac Allister, Dominik Szoboszlai, Wataru Endo and Ryan Gravenberch over the summer so could be forgiven for no lavish spending in the next 10 days. However, with the last two seasons seeing statement signings in Cody Gakpo and Luis Diaz towards the end of the window, Liverpool last went without a January addition in 2019.

Could the severity of Mo Salah's injury prompt any business? Perhaps but a return to AFCON has not yet been ruled out for the talismanic Egyptian. Nevertheless Mirror Football rounds up the latest transfer rumours to arrive at Anfield.

Liverpool compete for 'golden boy'

HLN, via Sport Witness, suggest Atletico Madrid will face competition to land Genk 'golden boy' Bilal El Khannouss. Liverpool are said to be set to provide 'formidable competition' for the 19-year-old having been convinced after a scouting mission.

The youngster is currently representing Morocco at AFCON and has featured from the bench in their opening two matches. Genk are said to be reluctant to let El Khannouss leave this month but could be open to facilitating a move in the future.

The Belgian side's director, Dimitri De Condé told HLN earlier this season that they hope to earn a record fee. “I have always said to Bilal and his entourage that we believe he should become the most expensive outgoing transfer in Belgian football," he said.

That would see the young star cost in excess of the £31million AC Milan stumped up for Charles De Ketelaere when he departed Club Brugge. El Khannouss is under contract until 2027.

Celtic target Kelleher

Celtic hope to land Liverpool goalkeeper Caoimhin Kelleher this summer according to Football Insider.

Brendan Rodgers hopes to raid his former club of their backup shotstopper who has made two Premier League appearances this season in Alisson Becker's absence but otherwise been restricted to cup competitions. The Irish international has drawn interest from the Scottish champions with Liverpool said to have put a £20million price-tag on his services.

That leaves a move impossible for the Bhoys this month but they are set to consider an approach in the next transfer window as Joe Hart turns 37.

Negotiations set

Liverpool will have to be quick if they retain hope of signing teenager Leny Yoro, who has already drawn comparisons to William Saliba. Footmercato claim that PSG have a meeting arranged to negotiate a move for the defender, who it has previously suggested that the Reds were advancing in talks with.

Yoro has further been linked to the likes of Manchester United and Real Madrid as PSG look to take an early advantage in a bid to sign the Lille star. The Parisian club are even keen to make room for him in their squad this summer so he can continue his progress.

The 18-year-old has already made 22 starts this season and cemented his place in Lille's backline.
