Newsboy’s horseracing tips for Friday’s two meetings, including Newcastle Nap
Newsboy fancies his nap, Charencey, to win at Newcastle and also hopes Cold Star can prove a hot tip on the same card and complete his Daily Double
by David Yates · The MirrorCHARENCEY is fancied to make the most of the return to seven furlongs to lift the Boost Your Acca At BetMGM Handicap (Div II) (5.15) at Newcastle on Friday.
On the back of a seventh at Leicester, a third at Chepstow and a fourth at Gosforth Park, the Ian Williams-saddled son of Lope De Vega made his handicap debut over seven at Leicester in October.
My selection very nearly got off to the perfect start in the sphere – he was nailed on the line for a short-head second to Chorus Line – but went one better for a first career win last time out.
Coming back to six furlongs for an 11-runner handicap at Newcastle 23 days ago, Paddy Mathers’ mount wore down Haziym in the closing stages to score by a neck.
The evidence of that performance is that going back up to seven furlongs will see Charencey take another step forward and, with a 3lb rise in the weights within range – and with the Williams team approaching Christmas in great form – the follow-up is very much on the cards.
He caught the eye of the stewards when coming from the back to take fourth to Sir Maxi over course and distance on his most recent outing, and a more positive ride should see COLD STARE show to good effect in the Boost Your Acca At BetMGM Handicap (Div I) (4.45).
