Kyren Wilson made headlines during the Snooker Shootout in Swansea on Friday by wearing a bright red oven glove during his match against Egyptian Mostafa Dorgham

As the kids would say, Kyren Wilson was cooking during the Snooker Shootout on Friday - because he was wearing an oven glove.

Wilson, 31, used a bright red mitt to help stabilise his cue as he prepared to take a shot during his emphatic 71-14 victory over Egypt's Mostafa Dorgham. "It looks like he's ready to get something hot out of the oven," one commentator said as he spotted the Kettering-born star bizarrely wearing the kitchen garment and amusing spectators at the Swansea Arena

By playing up to the crowd, Wilson explained that he only wanted to add to the fun and admitted that he wouldn't have done it had he not already secured the frame. "The kitchen were kind enough to lend me it," the star told Eurosport after being Dorgham.

"I just thought, this event is so much fun. I got it out when I'd won the frame, I wouldn't have got it out if I'd needed to win it. Everyone wants a good time, it's the weekend, so why not bring it out?"

Wilson, nicknamed 'The Warrior', went on to joke: "I kept hearing someone [in the crowd] shout, 'Don't forget the roast!' So, I'm cooking a roast apparently. Listen, it's Friday, we all wanna have a good time, so I'm just enjoying myself."

Later in the interview, the 31-year-old was told that he looked a bit hot, to which Wilson agreed as he joked: "Yeah, I'm losing the plot!" before throwing the oven glove over his head and into the air.

Wilson, who also posted a tweet joking about branded oven gloves, has now made it through to Saturday's final stages, bidding to qualify for the World Grand Prix next month by having a strong showing in Wales and then during the Scottish Open in Edinburgh next week.

"You can see from that I'm really sharp, I'm playing so well," he confidently added. "Daniel Wells, who I beat on Wednesday, was kind enough to practice with me yesterday. I'm putting the work in."

Wilson also made a heartfelt on-air apology because he's now missing a wedding on Saturday in order to take part in the latter stages of the tournament. He looked down the camera lens and said: "I just wanted to say Adam and Becky I'm sorry I can't make your wedding now I'm currently going to be staying in Swansea for the weekend."
