Man United play Liverpool in their final pre-season friendly of the summer as they prepare for their FA Cup final rematch in the Community Shield against Man City

by · Manchester Evening News

Manchester United face Liverpool in a pre-season friendly for the fourth time in the last decade this weekend.

That landmark match ended in a 3-1 win for United as they won the International Champions Cup, with Jesse Lingard, Juan Mata and Wayne Rooney all scoring in Miami. Four years later, they met in Ann Arbour, Michigan, a match Liverpool won 4-1 in front of over 100,000 fans.

It is two years since their most recent pre-season meeting, in which United won 4-0 in Thailand as Anthony Martial, Facundo Pellistri, Fred, and Jadon Sancho were among the goals. That was the Reds' first game of the summer, but this time, it is their last outing before the Community Shield against Manchester City as they return to Wembley Stadium two and a half months after their FA Cup final triumph.
