Varane could leave Manchester United in January

Raphael Varane could leave Manchester United during the January transfer window after falling out of favour under Erik ten Hag.

Varane has not started a Premier League fixture since September 30 and has not featured for Manchester United in league action across the last four games, with the Frenchman again an unused substitute for the defeat to Bournemouth at Old Trafford on Saturday.

Juventus have been credited with interest in the four-time Champions League winner and Italian journalist Nicolo Schira has revealed Varane could exit next month. The 30-year-old reportedly has a strained relationship with Ten Hag, and a sale is an option when the transfer window opens in January.

Varane signed for Manchester United in a £34m deal from Real Madrid in 2022 and has since made 75 appearances in all competitions for the club.

The centre-back has struggled with fitness issues during his time in England, while he has fallen behind Victor Lindelof and Harry Maguire in Ten Hag’s plans. The Dutchman also preferred Luke Shaw in a central defensive role during the defeat to Bournemouth at the weekend.

United have been linked with signing a centre-back next month with Benfica’s Antonio Silva and Nice defender Jean-Clair Todibo named as potential targets. Varane could be allowed to leave, in order to bring in funds for new additions.
