Odegaard makes ‘tough’ admission as Arsenal hang on for Wolves win

Arsenal captain Martin Odegaard admits that the fixture schedule is “tough” to deal with after his side hung on for a 2-1 home win over Wolves on Saturday.

Bukayo Saka gave the Gunners an early lead and Odegaard doubled it shortly thereafter as the hosts were seemingly cruising to victory.

However, the visitors pulled one back late in the contest after the Arsenal defence failed to clear their lines, as Matheus Cunha slammed the ball into the corner of the net.

Gary O’Neil’s men piled on the pressure in search of an equaliser, but the north London outfit took all three points to extend their lead at the top of the Premier League table to four points.

“We started so strong again, the first half was brilliant,” he told BBC Match of the Day. “We scored two good goals and dominated everything. We let them in a little bit with the goal, but that’s football. I guess we have to learn from that.

“We know in the Premier League that you can never switch off. Today was a good example of that. We have to make sure we do even better next time we go 2-0 up.

“It’s been a good week with some good results. We’re there at the top and we have to keep improving and keep pushing.”

Arsenal now head into a hectic winter schedule over the next month, with Saturday’s game the first of eight they will play in the month of December.

“[The schedule] is tough, but almost the whole season is tough,” Odegaard said. “You don’t have much time to recover. We have to be smart with our recovery and get some rest before the next game.”

Mikel Arteta’s squad travel to Kenilworth Road on Tuesday for their next Premier League encounter against Luton Town, with kick-off set for 8.15pm BST.
