Winger Ibrahim Cissoko out to entertain Plymouth Argyle's Green Army

The Dutch under-21 international has created a good early impression after joining the Pilgrims on a season-long loan from French Ligue 1 club Toulouse

Dutch winger Ibrahim Cissoko believes Wayne Rooney is 'the perfect coach' for him and the Plymouth Argyle boss will let him play with freedom.

Cissoko joined the Pilgrims earlier this month on a season-long loan from French Ligue 1 club Toulouse and is out to 'entertain, score goals and create something out of nowhere', which is an exciting prospect for the Green Army.

The 21-year-old has played in all three warm-up matches so far ahead of the 2024/25 Championship campaign, most recently as one of 10 substitutes who were sent on by Rooney in the 60th minute of the 2-0 win at Torquay United on Saturday.

Cissoko said: "I think they have been good games. Saturday was not so much minutes, so not so much time to express myself, but I have a good feeling. I really like the team.

"The tempo is really high, I enjoy the football and there is a good connection, so I think it's going to be a good season. I was not used to this kind of tempo but I think I have developed quick and now I'm used to it."

The sold-out crowd at Torquay's Plainmoor included a large contingent of the Green Army, many of whom would have been watching Cissoko in action for Argyle for the first time. "I hope they enjoyed me," he said. "The fans always give their all and I appreciate that. I can't wait to see them at Home Park.

"I was at Toulouse, I didn't get so much play time there. I'm still a young player so it was important for me to play and to look forward. Argyle came in and I spoke with the people, and I had a good feeling. I think I made the right choice."

Cissoko has settled well in Plymouth, even despite the recent wet weather. "I'm used to it, I'm Dutch," he joked. "English people are really nice, from the first day I feel like it's family. Everything is good, I really enjoy it."

As to what the Green Army could expect from him this season, the winger said: "I like the one-v-ones, I like to entertain, I like to score goals, I like to create something out of nowhere.

Cissoko added: "You see many players in the Championship doing good and then they go to the Premier League. It's a really good place to develop."

The chance to play under Rooney was one of the appeals of signing for Argyle according to Cissoko. "He was also an attacker and I speak with him about that. I think it's perfect that he's my coach. He lets me have the freedom to play, that's what I need."

And on the Argyle squad as a whole, he continued: "Day-by-day, we are getting better, we are getting more used to each other so I think two more weeks then we are ready (for the Championship season-opener at Sheffield Wednesday on Sunday, August 11)."

Cissoko has not only impressed with his dribbling ability and skill on the ball, but he has linked up well with left-back Nathanael Ogbeta, another of Argyle's summer recruits. "That's my guy, it's going to be great," he said.
