LAS VEGAS, NEVADA — It’s better to be safe than sorry ...

Following UFC Vegas 84 last night (Sat., Jan. 13, 2024) in Las Vegas, Nevada, company officials confirmed to MMAMania.com that two fighters were transported to the local hospital following their fights: Phil Hawes and Matthew Semelsberger.

Hawes was on the end of brutal ground-and-pound from Brunno Ferreira that put him unconscious in the first round (watch highlights), while Semlesberger was in a tough 15-minute, back-and-forth battle with Preston Parsons.

  • Hawes (12-6) was transported for a precautionary CT scan of his head and face. He was helped out of the Octagon following his knockout loss and then sent directly to the hospital.

The 35-year-old Middleweight has been knocked out in the first round of his last three fights and has now dropped four out of his last five appearances.

  • Semelsberger (11-7) was also transported for a precautionary CT scan of his head and face after his fight with Parsons.

“Semi The Jedi” is now on the first three-fight skid of his career, losing to Parsons, Uros Medic and Jeremiah Wells.

It is not a rare occurrence for UFC to transport fighters to the hospital for precautionary reasons, especially if the fighters are in a three-round battle full of damage or, in this case, a five-round war.

As of this writing, no results of the scans have been released, but stick with MMAMania.com for health-related updates moving forward.
