Tom Lawrence suffers another Rangers injury setback as midfielder limps off in Hearts clash

Lawrence was named in the starting XI for the fourth straight league game but only lasted a few minutes before limping off.

Tom Lawrence has suffered another injury setback less than a month after his return to the Rangers fold.

The Welsh midfielder has spent the bulk of his Ibrox career on the sidelines so far and was absent for three months between August and November. But he came off the bench in the Viaplay Cup semi-final win over Hearts and started the three following Premiership games, appearing to finally put his problems behind him.

But after being named in the team for the fourth league game on the spin at Tynecastle, he went down clutching his leg early in the first half and appeared a dejected figure as he was escorted off the pitch by medical staff. It was a major blow for Philippe Clement who called on Jose Cifuentes to replace him in Gorgie.

It comes after a positive update for Lawrence on his future and he'll be hoping the latest setback isn't a long-term one. Speaking ahead of the game, the playmaker said: “Obviously I had a long period out, which is very frustrating. Just when you think you are coming back to a good place you get another injury. That’s frustrating, but it’s football at the end of the day.

“I have done everything I can to get back to a good level now and hopefully I can play as many games as I can. The manager has been good with me. He is just trying to get me into a good rhythm."
