Dumfries bowler lands bronze medal in Perth and Kinross Disability Sports Lawn Bowls Championship

Maxwelltown Bowling Club's disabled facilitator Joe McGurk competing with participants from across Scotland

Earlier this summer Maxwelltown Bowling Club hosted its first disability bowls competition, which attracted bowlers from across the region.

The event proved to be a springboard for Maxwelltown’s Joe McGurk who competed in the Perth and Kinross Disability Sports Lawn Bowls Championship at Blackford recently and returned with a bronze medal, having competed with participants from across Scotland.

Joe, who is also the Maxwelltown club’s disabled facilitator, said: “The club is hoping to build on our involvement with disability bowls in the coming seasons. By liaising with organisations such as Scottish Disability Sport and other clubs, we hope to help take the sport to the next level.

"We hope to encourage other disabled bowlers and beginners to get in touch with the club or come along and try bowls.”
