Suryakumar Yadav breaks Virat Kohli’s world record in half number of matches

Team India’s newly-appointed T20 International captain Suryakumar Yadav has recently broke one of the world record of star player Virat Kohli. The Indian skipper broke the record in half number of matches than Kohli.

Suryakumar Yadav has now become the joint-most Player of the Match awards in the history of T20 Internationals. He matched Kohli’s record in about half the time. Virat Kohli won 16 Player of the Match awards in 125 matches while Yadav did it in just 69 matches.

Virat Kohli is following by Sikandar Raza (Zimbabwe) who have 15 POTM awards (in 91 matches), Mohammad Nabi (Afghanistan) 14 (in 129 matches) and Rohit Sharma (India) 14 (in 159 matches).

Notably, the record was broken after India defeated Sri Lanka by 43 runs. In yesterday’s match, SL won the toss and opted to bowl first.

Batting first, India made 213 runs losing seven wickets. Of which Suryakumar Yadav made 58 runs, Rishabh Pant made 49 runs and Yashasvi Jaiswal made 21 runs. From Sri Lanka’s side, Matheesha Pathirana took four wickets, while Wanindu Hasaranga and Dilshan Madushanka took one wicket each.

Chasing the target, Sri Lanka lost all wickets in 170 runs. Of which, Pathum Nissanka made 79 runs, Kusal Mendis made 45 runs and Kusal Perera made 20 runs. From India’s side, Riyan Parag took three wickets, while Arshdeep Singh and Axar Patel took two wickets each.

Both the teams are going to clash today for the second T20 International match of the series.
