South Africa hammer India

Back in February-March 2000, South Africa beat India 2-0 in a bilateral Test series. India lost the opening Test by four wickets at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. Despite being on the losing side, Sachin Tendulkar won the Player of the Match award for scoring 97 runs in the first innings and with figures of 5-1-10-3.

Chasing 163, the Proteas, led by Hansie Cronje, romped home after Jacques Kallis and Mark Boucher’s 36-run partnership for the seventh wicket.

India also lost the second Test in Bengaluru by an innings and 71 runs. After opting to bat first, the hosts were bowled out for 158 in their first innings. Thereafter, South Africa made 479 on the back of half-centuries from Gary Kirsten, Nicky Boje, Kallis, Daryl Cullinan and Lance Klusener.

Mohammad Azharuddin scored 102 runs in the second innings, but could not save India from an innings defeat. Boje won the Player of the Match award for scoring 85 and picking up seven wickets, including a five-wicket haul in the second innings.
