It was a good day for the Irish contingent as the 2024 Cheltenham Festival got underway
by Fionn Nolan · Irish MirrorDay one of the 2024 Cheltenham Festival saw a successful outing for Irish competitors with Willie Mullins and Paul Townend picking up a treble.
Rachael Blackmore and Henry De Bromhead started off Ireland’s sweep with a victory in the opening race of the day with star Slade Steel coming out on top in the Sky Bet Supreme Novices' Hurdle.
Townend and Mullins then grabbed their first win of three with Gaelic Warrior in the My Pension Expert Arkle Novices' Chase 2.10 pm start time.

The only non-Irish win of the day came in race three as trainer Kim Bailey watched jockey David Bass ride Chianti Classico to glory in the Ultima Handicap Chase as Mullins came in third place with Meetingofthewaters.
Townend took the next races with State Man and Lossiemouth to complete his and Mullins’ treble on the day.
Trainers Joseph O’Brien and Emmet Mullins won the final two races with Lark In The Mornin and Corbetts Cross.
