Former Ireland goalkeeper Paddy Kenny has resigned from his first job in management after just 33 days.

The 45-year old, who starred in the Premier League for Sheffield United and Queen's Park Rangers, was appointed manager of English ninth-tier side AFC Goole in late October in what was his first ever managerial role.

Life at the Yorkshire club started well for Kenny with a 5-1 win over Eccleshill United in his first league game and then a 3-0 victory over the same team in the West Riding County Cup.

That however, was as good as it got for the 45-year old. Defeats to Hallam (3-0), Penistone Church (3-0), Campion (4-2) and Handsworth (6-1) as well as a 4-2 defeat to Frickley Athletic in the NCEL League Cup sealed Kenny's fate.

It was announced on AFC Goole's X account that the former Ireland international had left the club.

Goole currently sit 19th in the Northern Counties East League Premier Division with 14 points from 18 games played, just a point off the bottom.

Kenny is perhaps most well-remembered for his time at Sheffield United, having played over 300 times for the Blades.

He was the QPR goalkeeper dramatically beaten by Sergio Aguero as he famously clinched the title for Manchester City with a last-gasp stoppage-time strike in 2012. He also played for Leeds United and held a goalkeeping coaching role at Northampton Town in the 2016/17 season.

Earlier this year, Kenny took to Twitter to declare his football career over and wrote, "People keep asking me why I aren’t involved in football, but I’ve dipped my toes in coach @ntfc, but it wasn’t for me. I’ve taken a different path now in my life with my transport business, after dinners and been the best dad I can be."
