World champion boxer Síofra Lawless receives a heart-warming hero's welcome on return to school

Síofra Lawless claimed gold for Ireland at the World Junior Boxing Championships in Armenia and received a hero’s welcome on her return to school.

Lawless saw off India's Shrushti Sachin Sathe in the final to come out on top in Yerevan in a unanimous decision.

The Wicklow native was welcomed back by her peers at Temple Carrig School as the whole school applauded her achievements.

The school posted a video of Lawless' return with the caption: 'TCG welcomed home our Junior World Boxing Champion Siofra Lawless. Siofra was also awarded female boxer of the tournament. We couldn’t be more proud of her'

A semi-final win over Georgia's Ana Khvedelidze sealed her spot in the final before going on to cap off a successful weekend for Ireland at the tournament.

There was also a gold medal for Ireland’s John Donoghue in the light welterweight category after a 4-1 split decision win over Uzbekistan’s Khikmatillo Ulmasov.
