A Lotto player in Dublin scooped almost €210,000 in the first draw of the new year after matching five numbers and the bonus ball last night.

The winning ticket was purchased at the Valley News shop in Fortunestown Shopping Centre in Dublin 24 on Saturday, December 30.

The National Lottery has urged players in the area to check their tickets carefully, reminding them that the winning numbers were 01, 06, 07, 19, 28, 40 and the bonus ball was 14.

Shop owner at Valley News, Anthony Walsh, was excited to get a call from the lottery authorities with the good news.

"As soon as word gets out that we sold a ticket worth over €200,000, there is certain to be a total buzz around the store and I’m sure we’ll have lots of customers in to check their tickets," he said.

"Imagine starting the new year with a win like that – it’s news that we would all like to be getting!

"Hopefully the ticket isn’t stuck at the end of a bag somewhere and the winner realises that they have a winner soon. We wish them all the very best with their win," added Mr Walsh.

The winner will claim a total prize of €209,699, and is advised to sign the back of their ticket and contact the National Lottery prize claims team on 1800 666 222 or email claims@lottery.ie to make arrangements to collect their winnings.

While over 88,000 players nationwide won prizes across the Lotto and Lotto Plus draws on Wednesday night, there was no outright winner of the €11,076,949 jackpot on offer.

With Saturday’s jackpot now set to roll towards an estimated €11.5 million, the National Lottery have reminded players dreaming of winning big this weekend that tickets can be purchased in-store, through the National Lottery app or at www.lottery.ie ahead of the 7.45pm cut-off time for sales on Saturday evening.
