Newsboy’s horse racing tips for Monday’s two meetings, including Newcastle Nap

Newsboy fancies his nap, The Caltonian, to win at Newcastle and also hopes Sawpit Sienna can score at Taunton and complete his Daily Double

THE CALTONIAN is expected to continue his hot streak by carrying top weight to victory in the Build Your Acca With BetUK Handicap (7.00) at Newcastle on Monday.

Linda Perratt’s son of Swiss Spirit drew a blank from 10 attempts on grass but has proved a different horse since making his all-weather debut in a seven-furlong handicap at Gosforth Park in October.

Sporting the blinkers that have been kept faith with since, The Caltonian scored by five lengths, following up over the same trip under a penalty at Wolverhampton six days later.

On the back of narrow defeats - two seconds at Wolverhampton, either side of a three-quarter-length third over this course and distance - Jonny Peate’s mount was back to winning form over six furlongs here last time, beating Sibyl Charm by two and a quarter lengths.

With the step back to five unlikely to pose a problem, The Caltonian gets the vote to defy a further 8lb rise in the weights.

At Taunton, SAWPIT SIENNA showed more over course and distance on her most recent outing and Sam Drinkwater’s daughter of Dylan Thomas is poised to repeat her success of 12 months ago in the Saturday Meeting 20th January Mares’ Handicap Hurdle (4.05).
