The athletics action at Paris 2024 has begun. Thursday saw the men's and women's 20km race walks take place. Brian Daniel Pintado of Ecuador and Yang Jiayu of China took the gold medals. Pintado is the first athlete from his country to claim a medal at this Games.

The first track and field events at the main Olympic Stadium will happen on Friday morning. The action begins 100m race in the decathlon. Those athletes then head to the long jump shortly after. Qualification in the men's hammer and women's high jump will also get underway and we will see the women's 100m preliminary round. Shericka Jackson has pulled out of the competition to focus on the 200m race. American Sha’Carri Richardson will now really fancy her chances of claiming gold. A packed day ends with the first rounds of the 4x400m mixed relay and women's 800m.
