Newcastle need to step up transfer effort as player hints January exit isn’t on the cards
by Sean Lunt · Sport WitnessNewcastle United may need to step up their efforts to sign Juventus youngster Matias Soulé, who believes he will be remaining at Frosinone in January.
That’s according to Tuttomercatoweb, who cover comments from the youngster today as Newcastle continue to be linked with his signature.
Soulé has been shining on loan with Frosinone this season, with seven goals and one assist in 16 games in Serie A so far.
That’s led to speculation that the 20-year-old, who is owned by Juventus, could be on the move in the January transfer window.
Newcastle have been consistently linked for the last month or so, with numerous reports indicating that they are watching him and preparing a move as they look to bolster Eddie Howe’s squad.
Indeed, a report earlier this month stated that they were ready to put €25m on the table and they wanted a deal done next month.
It seems, though, any impending move is news to Soulé, who seems to believe he will be remaining where he is for the time being.
“I think so, I will stay until the end of the championship,” TMW report him saying when he was asked directly if he is staying with Frosinone.
That, then, would indicate that he is unaware of any impending moves at this point, certainly from Newcastle anyway.
If the Magpies are keen it seems they now need to step on the gas and get moving before Soulé’s ‘I think so’ becomes something definitive.
