Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has ruled himself out of ever taking the managerial position at Newcastle United, claiming that he will never manage a club other than Liverpool in England.

The Reds announced on Friday morning that the German will step down as manager at the end of the season. It brings to an end eight-and-a-half years at the club in which he led them to their first ever Premier League title.

In an emotional interview with the club, Klopp explained his reasons behind the decision to leave Liverpool. “It is that I am, how can I say it, running out of energy,” he said.

“I have no problem now, obviously, I knew it already for longer that I will have to announce it at one point, but I am absolutely fine now. I know that I cannot do the job again and again and again and again”

The announcement has led to talk over whether Klopp will return to management in the future. Newcastle may have been touted as a possible destination in the future when the time comes to look for a successor to Eddie Howe.

But Klopp has shut down any talk of the possibility of returning to England with any other club. The 56-year-old gave an update on his future after the end of the current campaign.

“If you ask me, ‘Will you ever work as a manager again?’ I would say now no. But I don’t know obviously how that will feel because I never had the situation,” he said following the announcement of his departure.

“What I know definitely – I will never, ever manage a different club in England than Liverpool, 100 per cent. That’s not possible. My love for this club, my respect for the people is too big. I couldn’t.”

Klopp’s next game in charge of Liverpool is on Sunday when his team take on Championship side Norwich City in the FA Cup fourth round at Anfield. His final Premier League game in charge will come on 19 May when Liverpool host Wolves.
