Is Sunderland vs Preston North End on TV, channel, kick-off time, and how to watch
Everything you need to know ahead of tomorrow's Championship game between Sunderland and Preston North End at the Stadium of Light
by James Hunter · ChronicleLiveSunderland take on Preston North End in front of the Sky TV cameras on New Year's Day, looking to kick off 2024 with a win that would lift them back into the play-off spots. The Black Cats dropped out of the top six on Friday after their draw at Championship basement boys Rotherham United, but will go above Hull City to reclaim sixth place if they win tomorrow afternoon - at least until the Tigers take on Sheffield Wednesday in the tea-time kick-off.
Michael Beale's men can consider themselves fortunate to have avoided an embarrassing defeat against the Millers at the New York Stadium, with Rotherham taking a deserved lead through Sam Clucas' stunning volley before Jack Clarke's deflected shot bailed the Wearsiders out inside the final 20 minutes. Now Sunderland, who won at Hull on Boxing Day, have the opportunity to extend their unbeaten run to three games and also for Beale to earn his first home win since taking charge, having lost his first game at the Stadium of Light 3-0 against Coventry City last weekend.
Preston went seven games unbeaten at the start of the season, a run which included six wins - one of which was a 2-1 home success against Sunderland, with a Clarke penalty sandwiched between goals from Will Keane and Mads Frokjaer. But since that starting sequence, Ryan Lowe's side has won just four of their last 18 Championship games and have dropped to 11th in the table, and they were beaten by next-to-bottom Sheffield Wednesday on Friday night.
Last time the sides met on Wearside was in October last year and the game ended goalless.
