A Star-Crossed Romeo + Juliet Photo Dump

Tommy Dorfman shares an exclusive backstage photo diary from her Broadway Debut.

“I think the conceit, sort of the world we’re living in, is that these kids broke into the theater and put on Romeo and Juliet,” Tommy Dorfman says of Sam Gold’s new Broadway production, in which she plays both the Nurse and Tybalt. “I remember being like, ‘You want me to come in for the Nurse? That feels weird. But you know what? I can also make sense of it.’ And I think as a trans woman, it’s really interesting to play a surrogate mother.”

With her eBay film cameras in tow, Dorfman has been documenting her journey at the Circle in the Square Theatre with her castmates Rachel Zegler, Kit Connor, and more.

“I wanted to be really present in the rehearsal process, so I started bringing my film camera into the room,” she says. “When I share photos with people, they feel a sense of love or confidence in how I see them, which builds a safer, stronger connection.”
