First Samsung 200 megapixel telephoto camera in the Vivo X100 Pro+ to offer 200x zoom

by · Notebookcheck

Samsung has already talked a little about the possibilities of a 200 megapixel sensor behind a telephoto lens a few months ago. Up till now there is still no smartphone that can offer such a high-resolution zoom camera, but this will change in 2024 if you believe various leakers. The Chinese Weibo user Digital Chat Station has recently provided more information about a yet unreleased top model in the Vivo X100 series, which could potentially be launched sometime in 2024 under the name Vivo X100 Pro+ or Vivo X100 Ultra.

According to the leaker (see also screenshot below), it will combine an approximately 1/1.5 inch 200 megapixel sensor, most likely from Samsung, with a 4.3x telephoto lens, at least such a configuration is currently being tested by Vivo. The resulting equivalent focal length of 100mm should not only be ideal for portrait shots but also take digital zoom to new heights.

Specifically, the 10x zoom achieves almost optical quality through crop zoom, in addition this combo should even allow a maximum of 200x digital zoom. Of course, it remains to be seen how good these zoom shots will look in the end. Even if Vivo actually launches this zoom monster in the market in 2024, it is questionable whether it will be officially available outside of China. Rumor has it that Honor is also working on a similar 200 megapixel telephoto in the Honor Magic6 Ultimate, but this one could also remain exclusive to China.
