Microsoft is finally gearing up to revamp the stale Surface Laptop with major upgrades in 2024 according to leaks shared by Windows Central. The report also alleges that the Surface Pro line of 2-in-1 Windows PCs will also get a new model with some design changes and significant under-the-hood improvements the biggest of which is the inclusion of custom Snapdragon X SoCs.

Surface Laptop 6 with Snapdragon X SoC and a new design

Windows Central reports that the next Surface Laptop revision, possibly the Surface Laptop 6, will be available in 13.8 and 15-inch screen sizes with both the Snapdragon X and Intel’s 14th-gen CPUs. The availability of the Surface Laptop 6 with a custom implementation of Qualcomm’s latest X series SoCs could mark a turning point for Windows notebooks as Microsoft is reportedly aiming to rival Apple in terms of efficient performance.

Strong Performance without degraded battery life has been an area where MacBooks have dominated ever since the release of the first M1-powered MacBooks. So, if the Surface Laptop 6 with custom Snapdragon X chips comes close to rivaling Apple MacBooks, Windows users will finally have a go-to machine competing with the MacBook Air (Available on Amazon).

Moving on, Windows Central’s Surface Laptop 6 leak also reveals significant design changes such as narrower display bezels, rounded corners, and added port selection with the addition of two USB Type-C, a single Type-A, and a Surface Connect charging port. When we reviewed the Surface Laptop 5 (Available on Amazon), some of our biggest critiques included the old design with wide bezels and limited ports. To that end, the report of Surface Laptop 6 packing more ports and a new design is very encouraging.

Finally, the Surface Laptop 6 inputs could also see some changes as Windows Central maintains a new haptic touchpad and a dedicated Windows Copilot button on the keyboard. The purported addition of a separate Windows Copilot button is a clear sign that Microsoft intends to lean heavily into Windows AI capabilities and could market the device as such.

Microsoft Surface Pro 10 with improved display and webcam

In addition to packing the new Snapdragon X SoCs, the Microsoft Surface Pro 10 is rumored to include a better display touting improved brightness and a new anti-glare coating. The display, which could be available in 2160 x 1440 and 2880 x 1920 varieties, reportedly carries round corners and a new webcam with increased Field of View (FoV). As we mentioned in our review, the Surface Pro 9 (Available on Amazon) already has a pretty good webcam, so an even better camera should make for some excellent video calls.

Additionally, the Surface Pro 10 supposedly features NFC, a new Type Cover with a built-in Copilot button, and new finishes.

Lastly, Windows Central alleges that there could be a new Surface Go notebook next year which, if true, could breathe new life into entry-level Go laptops as the Surface Laptop Go 3 was rather underwhelming. Moreover, the publication also shares rumors regarding a possible Surface Laptop Studio 3 as well as significantly refreshed Surface Pro devices for 2025.
