5 Electric Cars That Have Great Range

With battery sizes increasing and charging technology advancing, range anxiety is slowly becoming a distant memory. Most new electric vehicles can travel between 150-300 miles on a single charge and when it comes time to top up, many will suck 100kW-plus from a rapid charger.

Whether you regularly cover a long work commute or enjoy the odd distant family holiday, here's a list of EVs that have a great range.

Genesis GV60 - 294 miles

It's difficult to choose a favorite Genesis model. They all look great and provide ample luxury, but the GV60 offers a great all-round package. Hop onto the U.S. configurator and you'll see four options: Standard RWD, Standard AWD, Advanced AWD and Performance AWD.

The rear-wheel drive guise is claimed to give 294 miles and has enough power for everyday driving (225 bhp). Likewise, it'll charge from 10% to 80% in 18 minutes when plugged into a meaty charger.

Step up to the AWD, and power increases to 314 bhp while the range figure drops to 264 miles. The Advanced drops this further to 248 miles and the Performance gives around 200 miles.

U.K. cars get three trims to choose from with power outputs ranging from 226 bhp to 483 bhp and ranges can go as high as 321 miles.

BMW i7 - 314 miles

Yes, we live in an age where a 5,635 lbs (2,555 kg) luxury waft mobile can deliver up to 314-plus miles—madness.

BMW has given us a car that you can watch your favorite TV shows in via its 31-inch 8k television, and you'll drift around on what only feels like a flying carpet in pure bliss.

If your driver refrains from stepping on the zoom pedal, BMW claims the i7 is good for 301-314 miles (U.S.). U.K. cars get a slightly higher range, which is claimed to sit between 339 and 387 miles.

Those not looking to spend $100,000-plus on a car can opt for the i4, which still has 335 bhp and is claimed to deliver 295-318 miles (U.S.) in its base trim or 288-365 miles in the U.K. market. Sadly, choosing this means you won't get a TV option but who really needs that, right?

Hyundai Ioniq 6 - 342 miles

The Ioniq 6 offers a 240-mile range in its entry-level SE Standard Range trim and 149 bhp.

Those who want more can opt for the 342-mile 225 bhp SE, the 291-mile 320 bhp SEL, or the Limited which gives the same range and power as the SEL. The SE offers a good all-round package and costs just $42,700.

Those who reside on British shores have two options: the £47,040 entry-level Premium or the £50,540 Ultimate. Both come with a 77kWh although buyers can choose from a 224 bhp 338-mile rear-wheel drive or 320 bhp 322-mile layout.

Tesla Model S - 359 miles

It's odd that words like 'performance' and 'range' can be used in the same sentence nowadays, but the Model S offers exactly that.

In its all-wheel drive trim, the Model S will cover the 0-to-60mph sprint in just 3.1 seconds, top out at 130 mph and is claimed to give a range between 380-402 miles. Of course, this will be a lot lower if you're testing out its oomph.

Spending an extra $15,000 gets you a ridiculous 0-60 mph time of 1.99 seconds and a 200 mph top speed; figures that will certainly impress your pals at the bar. Drive sensibly, however, and you could see between 320-359 miles on a single charge.

U.K. buyers need to settle for the slightly smaller Model 3 for now. Still, that's meant to provide 436 miles when equipped with the Long Range Rear-Wheel Drive trim.

Mercedes-Benz EQS - 407 miles

U.S. buyers can choose from four trim levels: EQS 450+, EQS 450 4MATIC, EQS 580 4MATIC and a range-topping AMG trim. If range is what you seek, then the 450+ is your best bet as this gives a range of around 390-407 miles.

The 450 4MATIC is claimed to give a range of around 330 miles; the 580 around 285 miles and the AMG is slightly higher at 305 miles.

Those in the U.K. have a bit more choice. Things start with the EQS 350 before moving onto the 450+ and then the AMG.

The 350 is claimed to provide between 380-408 miles depending on trim; the 450+ between 446-480 miles and the performance AMG guise will get you anywhere from 341 to 377 miles on a single charge.

Lucid Air Grand Touring - 512 miles

The base Air shouldn't be scoffed at with its 420-mile range and 430 bhp power output, but the new $112,025 (£86,787) Grand Touring offers a whopping 819 bhp and a 480-mile range in its entry-level guise. Spend an extra $5,500 (£4,260) and your range increases to 512 miles, although power remains the same.

For your six figures, you get a four-door luxury sedan with all-wheel drive and a 112kWh battery. Those who enjoy driving everywhere with their hair on fire can opt for the more expensive 'Performance' trim, which comes with 1,050 bhp and a larger 118kWh battery. However, it's worth noting that the range is a bit lower at 446 miles.
