HMD is bringing back the Nokia Lumia “Fabula” design for at least two new phones (leaks)

HMD is probably best known as the company that’s been selling Nokia-branded phones in recent years. But the Finnish company is starting to move away from the Nokia name by selling some phones under its own name.

That doesn’t mean HMD isn’t still leveraging Nokia’s assets though. A series of leaks suggest that HMD is working on at least two smartphones that revive the “Fabula” design of Nokia’s Lumia-branded phones.

The Fabula design language actually first debuted with the Nokia N9, a smartphone from 2011 that shipped with the Linux-based MeeGo operating system and a striking design that doesn’t hide the bezels, but instead incorporates a colorful polycarbonate body into the design language.

After Microsoft acquired Nokia’s phone business and began shipping Lumia-branded phones running Windows Phone software, the company adapted the Fabula design language for several new models before eventually giving up on phones and selling off the assets to HMD.

Now it looks like HMD is planning to revive the design for at least two new phones. A series of leaks suggest that a new mid-range phone code-named HMD Nighthawk and a more expensive model called the HMD Skyline are on the way.

According to recent posts from @smashx_60 (HMD_MEME’s), here’s what to expect from the upcoming phones:

HMD Skyline

  • 6.67 inch OLED display with a 120 Hz refresh rate
  • Qualcomm Snapdragon 7s Gen 2 processor
  • 108MP primary camera with optical image stabilization (OIS)
  • 4,900 mAh battery
  • IP67 water resistance
  • 5 years of software updates
  • Support for self repairs (likely through spare parts and repair guides from iFixit)
HMD Nighthawk

HMD Nighthawk

  • 6.67 inch FHD+ OLED display with 120 Hz refresh rate
  • Unisoc T760 processor
  • 8GB RAM
  • 128GB or 256GB of storage
  • 108MP primary camera with OIS + 8MP secondary camera (likely ultrawide)
  • 64MP front camera (with pixel binning for 16MP photos)
  • 4,900 mAh battery
  • 3.5mm headphone jack
  • Android 14

There are more details available about the Nighthawk phone at the moment, but it seems like the Skyline will likely be a higher-performance phone. It’s expected to sell for around €459 ($491) in Europe.

HMD Skyline G2

HMD is already said to be working on a 2nd-gen Skyline that will bring back another classic Nokia Lumia feature: a circular camera bump on the back of the phone that houses four cameras.
