Unihertz Jelly Max is a bigger smartphone that’s still small enough for single-handed use
by Brad Linder · LiliputingSmartphone screens have gotten so big in recent years that there’s a pretty fine line separating phones from tablets. But the Unihertz Jelly line of phones have been keeping the dream of small-screen phones alive. With current models featuring screen sizes measuring 3 inches or less though, that dream might be a bit more of a nightmare when it comes to usability.
Now Unihertz is preparing to launch a new model with a larger display, a faster processor, a better camera, and other key upgrades. But the company says the upcoming Unihertz Jelly Max could still be the smallest 5G smartphone. And promotional image suggest it could be small enough to comfortably use with a single hand.
Unihertz hasn’t revealed the screen size of physical dimensions for the upcoming phone yet, but the company has shared some other key details:
- Processor: Mediatek Dimensiy 7300 (same chip as the CMF Phone 1, with four Cortex-A78 cores, four Cortex-A55 cores, and Mali-G615 graphics)
- RAM: 12GB LPDDR5
- Storage: 256GB UFS 3.1
- Battery: 4,000 mAh
- Charging: 66W (90% charge in 20 minutes)
- Cameras: 100MP primary, 3.4X telephoto camera + 32MP front camera
The company says it will begin taking pre-orders for the Jelly Max through a Kickstarter crowdfunding campaign that’s set to launch “soon,” with Early Bird prices starting at $199, which represents a 40% discount off the eventual retail price (suggesting that full price = around $330).
A word of caution though: while Unihertz is responsible for some of the most unusual smartphone hardware we’ve seen in recent years, the company does not have a great track record when it comes to providing OS updates or long-term support for its products.
