Built on top of Android 14 this new update brings a host of new features that promise to enhance both performance and user interface (UI) of the Nothing Phone. The update features UI enhancements, customization options, and stability improvements for the camera and volume control.

Nothing, in its recent announcement on platform X announced that Nothing OS 2.5 Open Beta is now available for all Phone (1) users. Notably, Nothing reserves the x.0 branding for major updates to its OEM skin, differentiating them from Android version updates- like the Nothing OS 2.5.

Let's have a look at what's new coming with Nothing OS 2.5.

What's new in Nothing OS 2.5

According to Nothing's community page, the newest Nothing OS 2.5 is primarily focused on UI and customisation. It includes new solid colour wallpapers and a monochrome colour theme, providing a fresh look to their device. The update also includes additional support for gestures, enhancing functionality related to screenshot capturing and lock screen shortcuts.

Beyond aesthetics, Nothing OS 2.5 brings stability improvements for device cameras, offering a smoother and more reliable photography experience. Users will also get new Quick Settings layout options and enhanced volume controls.

Nothing OS 2.5 availability

While Nothing Phone 1 users currently have access to the beta version of Nothing OS 2.5, Nothing Phone 2 users have the stable OS powered by Android 14. The stable version was released after a successful open beta period that extended from October 11 through December 15.

For users who want to test the Nothing OS 2.5 beta, they can try the beta version by sideloading the APK provided by Nothing, available in the company's forum post. Navigate to Settings ? System ? Update to Beta version. If your phone is already running the latest Nothing OS update, you'll be prompted with an OTA update for Nothing OS 2.5, installing seamlessly like any other update.

Meanwhile, rumours are swirling about the imminent release of Nothing Phone 2's successor. Earlier, Nothing revealed plans to host an event at the Mobile World Congress (MWC) on February 27, 2024. Reports suggest that the company might introduce its upcoming products during this event, and hints point to the official announcement of Nothing Phone 2a being one of them. However, the company has yet kept the details of this anticipated smartphone tightly under wraps.

In addition to the speculation around Nothing Phone 2a, there are rumours that the company's next-generation flagship, the Nothing Phone 3, will make its debut in selected regions.
