- Lenovo showcases the ThinkBook Plus Gen 5 Hybrid at CES 2024, a laptop that runs both Android and Windows.
- The device functions as a regular Windows 11 laptop in laptop mode and as an Android 13 tablet in tablet mode.
- The ThinkBook Plus Gen 5 Hybrid will be priced at approximately Rs 1,65,000.
For many, it’s a dream come true. At CES 2024, Lenovo showcased arguably the ideal 2-in-1 laptop. How is that? you may ask. At the annual Consumer Electronics Show, Lenovo unveiled the ThinkBook Plus Gen 5 Hybrid which runs on both Android and Windows! The device is both a Windows laptop and an Android tablet. If you use it in laptop mode, it will run like a regular Windows 11 laptop. However, if you switch it to tablet mode, it is a full-fledged Android 13 tablet. And how do you switch modes? The ThinkBook Plus Gen 5 Hybrid has a detachable screen. When attached to the keyboard, it’s in laptop mode, and when detached, it will run in tablet mode.
In the laptop mode, the ThinkBook Plus Gen 5 Hybrid is powered by an Intel Core Ultra 7 processor, with 32 GB RAM, 1 TB SSD, along with a 75 WHr battery. In tablet mode, the device is powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Plus Gen 1 processor, 12 GB RAM, 256 GB storage, and a 38 WHr battery. The screen of the device is 14-inch with a 2.8K OLED display.
Lenovo announced that the ThinkBook Plus Gen 5 Hybrid will likely go on sale in the US in the second quarter of 2024 and will be priced around $1,999, which is approximately Rs 1,65,000. We have yet to hear from Lenovo if the device will come to India, but it will be fascinating to see how it works –– especially the software side of it.
We have long been seeing convertibles and 2-in-1 laptops in the Indian market. The hardware side of the ThinkBook Plus Gen 5 Hybrid seems quite simple. You yank the display to the keyboard and use it like a laptop and when you need more portability, you detach the display, and you have a tablet. But what’s really piquing our interest here is a laptop that runs on Windows otherwise, but the minute you pull it off the keyboard, it’s an Android tablet. If you are still not sure what’s getting us so excited about this, imagine that you are working on a file on a Windows app. And now, you want to disengage the screen from the keyboard and use it in tablet mode. You are now using Android. What we want to know is if you will be able to continue that project in tablet mode as well.
Regardless, it’s a very interesting device from Lenovo, and we are really hoping it comes to the Indian market soon.
