DYRS launches skill development training for youths on mobile, drone & computer

Kohima, September 30: Nagaland Directorate of Youth Resources and Sports (DYRS) today launched Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojana (PMKVY) 4.0 Training for local youths.

Altogether 218 youths from different districts are undergoing training on three different skills – Mobile Phone Hardware Repair Technician, Drone Service Technician and Assistant Installation Computing & Peripherals with YouthNet and NagaBots are the training partners. The training being held at YouthNet will go on for 75 days.

The launching programme was held at YouthNet office with Secretary YRS Anthony Ngullie as the guest of honour.

In his speech, Ngullie said in this era of technology and Artificial Intelligence (AI) it will be difficult for anyone to survive without the simple knowledge of technology because through AI even the unreal is becoming real.

“We cannot afford to be in the primitive years in this AI world,” he said.

Maintaining that unemployment in Nagaland is on the rise every year as thousands go to schools and pass out from colleges but are uncertain about getting government jobs.

In this, he stressed on skills for the educated youth which would help them get jobs both in government and private sectors.

Lamenting that dignity of labour is diminishing among the younger Nagas, he said that ego and pride is stopping them from doing skilled work.

Our youths have become over ambitious but unable to achieve, he said.

He therefore hoped that such skill development training programme would help the youths to catch up and capture the market

PMKVY, he said, is a project to take youth into skilled work. This is a phased programme and therefore the youths should take the training seriously in order to upskill themselves.

YRS Director Kethosituo Sekhose called upon the Naga youths to be equipped with skills and be ready to do any work as they have immense opportunities in skilled work.

Government jobs do not contribute to the economy but it can be done only through entrepreneurship and business.

Asserting that the state government is trying its best to bring in entrepreneurship to add to the growth of the state’s economy, he said, the department has initiated the training programme as a pilot project for now and will continue it depending on the outcome.

This training is aimed to reduce reliance on government jobs and encourage self-sufficiency among the youth, he said.

Earlier, sharing the opening remarks, YouthNet Director Nunesenuo Chase said as training partners they are currently conducting comprehensive skill development training programs.

These programs are designed to empower both educated and uneducated youth by providing them with practical, in-demand skills that will help them secure livelihoods and reduce their dependence on govemment employment, she said.

The PMKVY is a flagship initiative under the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship (MSDE), aimed at enabling a large number of Indian youth to take up industry-relevant skill training.

It encourages skill certification and promotes employment and self-employment opportunities.

The program is implemented through the National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC), which plays a key role in fostering private sector engagement, establishing skill training centres, and ensuring quality standards.

Mobile Phone Hardware Repair Technician: With four active batches, this course focuses on providing participants with the technical knowledge and hands-on experience required to repair mobile phone hardware. This training equips them with the skills necessary to establish careers in the growing field of mobile phone repair.

Drone Service Technician: One batch of trainees is currently undergoing specialized training in drone technology, focusing on servicing, repair, and maintenance of drones. This course taps into the increasing demand for drone services across sectors, offering participants valuable expertise in a cutting-edge field.

Assistant Installation Computing & Peripherals: Four batches will begin training in the Shamator district from next week. This program will teach participants to install, maintain, and repair computers and related peripherals, addressing the growing need for computing services in the digital age.

These training programs not only focus on technical skills but also emphasize entrepreneurial and life skills, ensuring that the trainees are prepared to support themselves and create employment opportunities for others, Chase added.

Short speeches were also shared by trainees Philip Patton and L. Toshimeren Longkumer.

Chaired by Youth Resource Officer Naroenla, the programme commenced with prayer by Pastor of Peniel Church, Kohima, Vikhoto Zao while Director NagaBots Kevin Khezhie Tech Ventures Pvt. Ltd delivered the concluding remarks.
