‘Majority of the youth will be jobless if we ban mining’ – National House of Chiefs president
Ogyeahoho Yaw Gyebi II, President of the National House of Chiefs, has expressed concerns over recent calls for an immediate ban on all mining activities in the country. Well-meaning Ghanaians, Civil Society Organisations (CSOs), traditional leaders, and labor unions have mounted pressure on the government to impose a ban on mining to mitigate the harm done to the country’s water bodies. This comes in response to Ghana Water Limited’s distress calls announcing its inability to supply adequate water to some parts of the Central Region due to the pollution of the Pra River.
