British beautician, 33, suffers crushed arm after scooter crash involving lorry in Bali
by Brooke Davies · MetroA beauty influencer is fighting for her life after she fell off a scooter and hit by a lorry in Indonesia.
Charlene Morrissey, 33, was struck by a car causing her to fall into oncoming traffic in Bali, leading to serious injuries to her arm as she reached out to break her fall.
The beautician, from Airdrie, Lanarkshire, remains in critical condition but the hospital is now stopping treatment after learning her travel insurance will not pay.
Her family managed to raise £50,000 within 48 hours of her accident earlier this month.
Charlene has already had multiple blood transfusions and a skin graft which has failed, meaning she now faces further surgery.
Doctors plan to save her arm through a pedicle flap, which is where the hand is stitched to the abdomen allowing skin to grow.
Charlene had lived and worked in Bali for six months before the accident.
A GoFundMe has been set up to help raise more money for medical bills and to support her family who have flown out from the UK to be with her.
They are also trying to fly her to Australia where the UK foreign embassy may be able to send her to Perth for treatment.
So far around £100,000 has been raised, with a member of the family saying the amount of support they have received has been ‘overwhelming’.
They said: ‘The support from everyone so far, every single message, share, comment and like is so overwhelming for our family and we would not have the positivity we have if it wasn’t for you all.
‘The positivity we feel is the first we have felt in the last few days and it means the world.
‘We honestly cannot thank you all enough.’
