More than a dozen displaced in fire at Renton apartment complex
by Dahlia Bazzaz · The Seattle TimesAround a dozen people were displaced Sunday morning after an apartment complex caught fire in Renton, according to emergency responders.
There were no injuries reported in the fire, which was extinguished in about an hour, said deputy chief Mark Seaver of the Renton Regional Fire Authority. A cat living in one of the seven units affected died from its injuries.
The fire started in a third-floor apartment at the Sky Lanai Apartments, near the city’s airport, after a resident placed a backpack on a stove and accidentally switched on a burner, according to the authority’s fire investigator.
Of the seven units affected, two had fire damage. The rest were damaged by water in the effort to extinguish the flames. The complex has about 48 units in total, Seaver said.
