Before Florida governor and 2024 GOP presidential candidate Ron DeSantis stood behind an Alpharetta, Georgia stage podium to debate California Democratic Governor Gavin Newsom Thursday, ex-President Donald Trump's campaign team took to social media to attack the former Trump ally.

Just hours ahead of the debate, the Trump team titled a statement posted to Twitter/X from spokesperson Steven Cheung, "KISS OF DEATH: Ron DeSantis Is Thirsty AF."

POLL: Should Trump be allowed to hold office again?

The statement read, "Ron DeSanctimonious is acting more like a thirsty, third-rate OnlyFans wannabe model than an actual presidential candidate. Instead of actually campaigning and trying to turn around his dismal poll numbers, DeSanctus is now so desperate for attention that he’s debating a Grade A loser like Gavin Newsom."

It continued, "At the debate, Ron will flail his arms and bobble his head wildly, looking more like a San Francisco crackhead than the governor of Florida. This isn't a prediction. It's a spoiler."

Referencing the Florida governor's recent endorsements from prominent Iowa leaders ahead of the January Iowa caucuses, the statement also said, "A new poll from The Messenger and Harris X further proved none of DeSanctus' endorsements from [Governor] Kim Reynolds or [evangelical leader] Bob Vander Plaat$ did anything to help his numbers. Ron actually dropped to single digits along with Nikki Birdbrain' Haley, while President Trump INCREASED his commanding lead to 68%.*"

DeSantis and Newsom agreed to debate one another earlier this year after months of publicly feuding over issues such as immigration policy, COVID-19 protocol, the economy and more.
