Met Office alert issued for Birmingham as region braces for 'disruption and some loss of power'
45mph winds are set to hit Birmingham this weekend as the Met Office issue a yellow weather warning
by Naomi DeSouza, https://www.facebook.com/naomicovlive · Birmingham LiveStrong winds are due to batter Birmingham and the West Midlands today, Saturday December 9, as the Met Office issues a yellow weather warning. The alert, for wind, was issued across Birmingham for Saturday from 9am to 11:45pm.
The warning also encompasses much of England, Scotland and Northern Ireland, with some flood alerts in place in Halesowen and Warwickshire. Brummies have been told to brace for transport disruption, some short-term loss of power and delays to road, rail and air for the whole of Saturday.
Gusts of winds will reach highs of 45mph, and forecasters have said it will be very windy and wet today, with further heavy showers tomorrow. Temperatures will remain above 0C for most of the weekend, with highs of 11C in Birmingham today.

Issuing a yellow weather warning for strong winds in Birmingham, the Met Office have said to expect:
- Some delays to road, rail, air and ferry transport are likely
- Probably some bus and train services affected, with some journeys taking longer
- Some short term loss of power and other services is possible
- It’s possible that some coastal routes, sea fronts and coastal communities will be affected by spray and/or large waves
- Delays for high-sided vehicles on exposed routes and bridges likely
As it stands for Sunday, a yellow weather alert has only been issued for the north, with Manchester included. The forecast for Birmingham on Saturday states: "After a very wet start, turning drier but windier through the morning, with some afternoon sunshine.
"Very windy by the evening with gales and heavy rain returning to northern counties. Temperatures above average for the time of year. Maximum temperature 12C."
