Full list of flood warnings across West Midlands as drivers told 'do not travel'

A number of vehicles have become trapped in floodwater overnight as schools have been forced to close in parts of Birmingham

The Met Office has issued a yellow warning for rain across the West Midlands with flooding causing travel chaos in the region. Schools have been forced to close and trains cancelled as the deluge continues.

A number of people have been rescued by emergency services after attempting to drive through flood water. Hall Green Police shared on X: "Please be cautious when crossing flooded areas. Officers have assisted West Midlands Fire Service in securing flooded area - no one was injured/driver was rescued. Please Stay Safe."

Elsewhere, replacement bus services have taken the place of trains following the rain. Birmingham New Street shared: "Flooding at Wellington is affecting journeys between Shrewsbury and Wolverhampton.

"We are on site and will work to reduce water levels as much as possible so the line can fully reopen." A number of flood warnings remain in place across the West Midlands with warnings on the Gov website categorising the risk as 'expected.'

Flood warnings in West Midlands:

• Bourn Brook at Selly Oak
• Illey Brook at Halesowen
• River Cole at Coleshill
• River Rea at Edgbaston
• River Rea at Stirchley
• The Bourn at Bournville

A statement on each of the warning pages reads: "We are closely monitoring the situation. Our incident response staff are actively checking river levels and the weather forecast.

"Please plan driving routes to avoid low lying roads near rivers, which may be flooded and avoid contact with flood water."

A spokesperson for West Midlands Ambulance Service warned drivers not to travel unless it was 'absolutely necessary'. They shared on X: "There are flood alerts across parts of the West Midlands so please stay safe. Do not drive through flood water.

"Slow down in heavy rain. Increase distances and slow down. Only travel if it is absolutely necessary."

Birmingham: A Child Poverty Emergency

2. Provide free school meals to every child in poverty
3. Create a city “aid bank” for baby and child essentials
4. Protect children’s and youth services
5. Create permanent, multi year Household Support Fund and give more Discretionary Housing grants
6. Set up child health and wellbeing hubs in our most deprived neighbourhoods
7. Appoint a Birmingham child poverty tsar
8. Provide free public travel for young people
